2026 Shanghai Disneyland Christmas and Winter Frostival: New Olaf Show and New Year Castle Show

Shanghai Disneyland’s Disney Winter Frostival runs from 19 November 2026 to 20 February 2027. A new show this year stars Olaf and Anna, and it joins falling snow on Mickey Avenue, a winter cavalcade (a parade with floats) and a castle projection show after dark.

From 1 December to 3 January, Mickey and Friends wear ski-themed Christmas outfits. Over New Year, the Enchanted Storybook Castle hosts a special show called Ignite the New Year.

What Not to Miss

Show times change and can shift for weather or operations, so check the Shanghai Disney Resort app on the day. I’d plan the new Olaf show, Mickey’s Snow Magic and the cavalcade first, then add the rest as time allows. The show and scene photos below are from winter 2025, except the Christmas outfits one, so this year’s details may differ.

Star Squad: Join Olaf for a Cozy Celebration

This new show plays at the castle viewing area. Olaf, Anna and the Shanghai Disneyland Band appear together, and the Star Squad gets guests singing, dancing and lighting up magical stars.

Pro Tip: Guests are meant to join in, so if you have kids, pick a spot where they can see the stage.

Mickey’s Snow Magic

During the show, Mickey Avenue turns into a giant snow globe with flurries overhead.

Snow statues and ice sculptures of Disney characters line Mickey Avenue and the Gardens of Imagination, and Zootopia has its own snow statues of the land’s characters.

Disney Winter Magic Cavalcade

Disney characters and floats bring classic winter scenes down the parade route. Disney Queens, Princesses and Princes also appear at Castle Encounters from time to time, in their winter outfits from the cavalcade.

Pro Tip: If you’re buying the Winter Frostival Package (a hotel stay with tickets), it already includes Disney Premier Access (a paid skip-the-line pass) for this cavalcade, for 2 people.

A Celebration of Disney Winter Frostival

After dark, projection, light and sound cover the Enchanted Storybook Castle and the Gardens of Imagination, telling classic Disney stories. It makes a good end to the day.

Mickey’s Magical Tree Lighting Ceremony

This is one of the park’s traditions for starting the Christmas season. Mickey, Minnie, Duffy and LinaBell join a live band in the Gardens of Imagination to light the resort’s tallest Christmas tree. The ceremony date hasn’t been announced yet, so check the official calendar before you go.

Other holiday shows during the Christmas season include Light Up the Holidays with Magic, Christmas Swing and Mickey Avenue Carolers.

Disney Friends in Christmas Outfits

From 1 December to 3 January, Mickey and Friends wear warm, sporty outfits for a winter ski trip. Santa Goofy greets guests on Mickey Avenue, and Duffy and Friends have new Christmas outfits too. If you want these photos, pick a date in that window.

Disneytown Christmas Market and Trees

Disneytown, outside the park, has its own celebration. The Disneytown Christmas Market has craft stations, food booths and holiday activities, and the Disneytown Christmas Tree Trail leads you past themed trees to the iconic tree, dressed for the resort’s 10th Birthday this year.

On weekends and holidays, Santa welcomes children to his cabin, and the Magic Glee Club sings at the tree lighting ceremony.

The new decorations also reach Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and Toy Story Hotel, with Christmas trees across the resort.

Do You Need a Separate Ticket?

There’s no separate event ticket listed, so a regular park ticket covers the shows and decorations inside the park. One-day tickets on the official site currently start at ¥475, and the price depends on the date. They’re on sale up to 4 December so far, and later dates aren’t on sale yet.

Ticket types and prices are in my Shanghai Disneyland planning guide. To decide on Premier Access, see the Premier Access guide.

Book your trip:

Which Paid Extras Are Worth It?

None of these is essential.

Paid extra Dates Price What you get
One-Day Dated Ticket with Free ¥88 Combo Dinner Coupon Purchase date to 3 January 2027 From ¥475 Dated ticket + ¥88 dinner coupon
Disney Dream Vacation – Winter Frostival Package Not listed yet Not listed yet 1 hotel night, breakfast and dinner buffets for 2 adults, 2 dated tickets, food coupons for 2 adults, cavalcade Premier Access for 2
Royal Banquet Hall and Aurora festive set menus Christmas season See official site Seafood and meat set menus
Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and Toy Story Hotel themed dinner buffets Winter See official site Buffet and activities

If it’s sold for your date, I’d look at the ticket with the dinner coupon first. On the dates on sale now, it costs the same as the regular one-day ticket for that day, so you get a free ¥88 coupon for a combo meal at selected quick service restaurants after 16:00.

The Winter Frostival Package suits two adults already planning to stay at Shanghai Disneyland Hotel or Toy Story Hotel, since it bundles the room, meals, tickets and Premier Access for the cavalcade. For a proper sit-down Christmas dinner, look at Royal Banquet Hall or Aurora. The hotel buffets add activities and run throughout winter.

When Should You Go?

I’d pick a Tuesday to Thursday in December, except 24 and 31 December. You get the Christmas outfits and decorations, and you avoid the weekend. Then match your dates to what you want most:

  • For New Year: 31 December and 1 January.
  • To go early: 19 to 30 November already has the Frostival, without the Christmas outfits.
  • Around Chinese New Year: The Frostival runs until 20 February, and the February Chinese New Year program hasn’t been announced yet, so check again before you go.

The official calendar currently runs to 31 December and lists these scheduled closures, so check again before you go:

  • Rex’s Racer: 28 November to 5 December
  • Pixar Adventurous Journey: 8 to 10 December
  • Jet Packs: 17 December
  • Roaring Rapids: from 6 December 2026, with no reopening date on the official calendar yet
  • Explorer Canoes: closed now, with no reopening date on the official calendar yet

Rex’s Racer is closed on 1 to 5 December, Roaring Rapids from 6 December, and Pixar Adventurous Journey on the Tuesday to Thursday of 8 to 10 December, so if one of them matters to you, choose your date around it.

Planning New Year’s Eve

On 31 December and 1 January, Mickey and Friends wear their celebratory New Year outfits. In the evening, Ignite the New Year plays at the Enchanted Storybook Castle. Disney hasn’t mentioned fireworks, so don’t count on them.

Show times and the closing time for that night haven’t been announced yet, and the press release doesn’t say which evening, so check the app on the day. If this show is why you’re going, keep your evening free for it and get to the castle early.

Food and Merchandise

These are the winter treats I’d look for:

  • Hot drinks: Hot chocolate and flavored milk tea
  • Sweets: Christmas-themed cookies and muffins, Mickey and Pals Themed Tanghulu (candied fruit on a stick), cotton candy
  • New this year: Wagyu Cheeseburger Spring Rolls and breakfast-only Mickey-shaped Youdunzi (a Shanghai fried radish cake). The official site sells a Youdunzi Breakfast Combo Voucher for ¥50, used daily from 08:00 to 10:00
  • Back again: Duck Leg in Turnip Sour Soup

For merchandise, the 2026 Mickey and Friends Ski Party Collection has accessories, sweaters, tumblers and home decor, and the 2026 Duffy and Friends Christmas Wishes Collection has mini-sweater earphone cases, chapka hats (with ear flaps) and jackets. Stitch and Angel, Winnie the Pooh and Friends and Zootopia have winter items too.

Know Before You Go

  • Dress warmly: Shanghai can drop below freezing in winter, and evenings at the castle feel colder, so wear layers.
  • Shows can be canceled: Rain, high wind, poor air quality, heavy fog or lightning can delay or cancel a show. Check the app on the day.
  • Bring your ID: Tickets are tied to your name. Bring the original ID you bought with: your passport, or your Home Return Permit if you’re from Hong Kong, or your Taiwan Compatriot Permit if you’re from Taiwan.
  • Payment fees: On Alipay or WeChat Pay with a foreign card, a payment over ¥200 carries a 3% fee on the full amount, and ¥200 or less is free. New users may get a temporary fee waiver. Your card issuer’s foreign transaction fee, typically 1-3%, is extra. Buying through Klook or Trip.com avoids the 3%.
  • Set up your phone first: Install a VPN before you arrive, since Google, WhatsApp and Instagram are blocked without one, and download the Shanghai Disney Resort app.

My Take

For a first winter visit, I’d go on a Tuesday to Thursday in December and see the new Olaf show, the snow on Mickey Avenue and the Christmas outfits in one day. Change that to New Year only if the New Year show is what you came for.

Plan in this order: pick your date, buy your ticket, then decide on Premier Access or the hotel package. On the day, open the app’s schedule and plan the shows you most want to see first.

My first visit to Disneyland at age 10 left me terrified. When I returned as a teenager, something shifted — not a love for Disney, but a fascination with how these places are built to make you feel things. The queue that builds tension before you board. The lighting that tells your body to relax. The finale that earns its emotional payoff.
I’ve spent years years writing opinionated planning guides and park coverage — first in Traditional Chinese, and since 2023, in English — focused on SHDR, HKDL, and UBJ. I write for travelers who want more than a list of rides: honest recommendations, specific timing advice, and a perspective on why these experiences work the way they do.
