The first area you’ll enter at Universal Studios Beijing is Hollywood Boulevard, and it instantly sets the tone with movie magic vibes. Imagine stepping onto a glam version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame—but with a Chinese twist. The palm trees, vintage-style façades, and film set-style buildings create the feeling that you’re walking through a living movie scene.

I love how this land blends classic Hollywood with Chinese cultural elements, making it feel both familiar and fresh. Keep an eye out for film-themed shops and restaurants—some even named after iconic scenes. It’s the perfect place to grab a coffee, snap a few photos, and ease into your Universal adventure.

Must-Do Attractions:

  • Lights, Camera, Action!: A special effects show hosted by Steven Spielberg that demonstrates how movie magic is created.
  • Universal Studios Grand Parade: A colorful procession featuring characters from all the park’s themed areas. Check the app for daily schedule.

Transformers: Metrobase

Next up is Transformers: Metrobase, and if you’re a Transformers fan, get ready—this land is epic. It’s the first-ever Transformers-themed zone in any Universal park, and it’s packed with action, cutting-edge tech, and that classic Autobots vs. Decepticons energy.

The must-do ride here is Transformers: Battle for the Allspark, a high-speed 3D dark ride that puts you right in the middle of a city-wide chase. I still remember the adrenaline rush from dodging Decepticons alongside Optimus Prime. Don’t miss the Energon Power Station either—it’s a cool spot where you can see how the Autobots recharge, and yes, you can actually try Energon drinks too.

Must-Do Attractions:

  • Decepticoaster: An intense roller coaster that reaches speeds of 104 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. This is my personal favorite thrill ride in the park.
  • Transformers: Battle for the AllSpark: A 3D dark ride where you join the Autobots in their battle against the Decepticons.
  • Transformers: MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE: A live character interaction show where you can meet and take photos with Optimus Prime and other Transformers.

Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness

If you’re traveling with little ones—or just love the world of Po and the Furious Five—Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness is a total delight. This fully indoor land is perfect for hot or rainy days, and everything inside is bursting with color, charm, and playful energy.

My personal favorite is Kung Fu Panda: Journey of the Dragon Warrior, a flume-style ride that takes you on a splashy adventure with Po and friends. It’s just the right mix of thrills and laughs. Need a break? Head over to Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest, a lively stage show that brings martial arts and storytelling to life in the cutest way possible. And if your kids (or inner child) want to try their luck, there are plenty of carnival-style games too—most cost around RMB 35 per play.

Must-Do Attractions:

  • Mr. Ping’s Noodle House: Both an attraction and a dining location where you can enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine.
  • Kung Fu Panda Journey of the Dragon Warrior: A water ride adventure where you join Po in his quest to defeat Tai Lung.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

If you’re a Harry Potter fan (like me), stepping into The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Beijing feels like crossing over into the story itself. Hogwarts Castle is stunning in person—you actually get to walk through Dumbledore’s office, peek into the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, and even pass by the Gryffindor common room. The highlight? Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, a 4D ride that’s part flight, part chase, and totally magical.

After that, take your time wandering through Hogsmeade Village. I always make a stop for butterbeer (cold or frozen—both are great), grab a chocolate frog or two, and maybe pick up a wand at Ollivanders. It’s one of those places where the details really bring the books and films to life.

Must-Do Attractions:

  • Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey: An immersive dark ride through Hogwarts™ that combines physical sets with screen technology. Wait times typically range from 60-150 minutes.
  • Flight of the Hippogriff: A family-friendly roller coaster perfect for younger wizards or those who prefer milder thrills.
  • Ollivanders: Experience the magic of a wand choosing its wizard in this interactive show.

Don’t Miss: The Hogwarts Castle Night Show, a spectacular projection mapping show on the castle that happens after dark.

Pro tip: you can rent house-themed robes and/or interactive wands from local vendors instead of buying in the park to save money. The price starts at RMB 59 per day.

Jurassic World Isla Nublar

If you’re craving more thrills, don’t skip Jurassic World Isla Nublar—it’s one of the most immersive lands in the entire park. The whole area feels like you’ve stepped straight into the movie, with lush jungle scenery, dramatic music, and the occasional dinosaur roar echoing in the background.

The star attraction here is Jurassic World Adventure, a dark ride that puts you in the middle of a high-stakes safari across the island. The animatronics are jaw-droppingly lifelike—I still get chills thinking about the moment a T. rex charged our vehicle. For something more hands-on, head to Camp Jurassic, a kid-friendly area where you can explore, climb, and meet some of the gentler prehistoric creatures. It’s a great balance of edge-of-your-seat action and family fun.

Must-Do Attractions:

  • Jurassic Camp: A play area perfect for younger children to explore and discover dinosaur fossils.
  • Jurassic World Adventure: An indoor dark ride that takes you through the dinosaur park when things go terribly wrong.
  • Jurassic Flyers: A gentle flying ride offering panoramic views of the entire island from 8 meters high.

Waterworld

If you’re a thrill seeker or just love a good live-action show, Waterworld is a must-see. This land is built around the cult-classic movie Waterworld and features one of the park’s most impressive performances: Waterworld: A Live Sea War Spectacular. I was genuinely blown away the first time I saw it—think high-speed jet ski chases, massive fireballs, plunging stunts, and real water explosions, all happening just meters away. It’s loud, fast-paced, and incredibly well-choreographed. The arena fills up fast, so I always recommend getting there early for the best view (and maybe a splash zone seat if you’re feeling brave).

Minion Land

Minion Land is pure joy—especially if you’re a fan of the Despicable Me movies (who isn’t?). The whole area feels like one giant Minion playground, with bright colors, quirky details, and nonstop silliness around every corner.

The main ride here is Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, a 3D motion simulator that throws you right into Gru’s world for a wild, laugh-out-loud adventure alongside his daughters and a whole army of Minions. For younger kids—or anyone needing a breather—Super Silly Fun Land is a fully indoor zone packed with carnival-style games and gentle rides. It’s lighthearted, easy to enjoy, and one of those spots where everyone in the family can just relax and have fun.

Must-Do Attractions:

  • Despicable Me Minion Mayhem: A 3D simulator ride where you’re transformed into a Minion.
  • Super Silly Fun Land: An interactive play area with water features (perfect for hot days).

Universal CityWalk Beijing

Universal Citywalk Beijing

Universal CityWalk Beijing is the entertainment, dining, and shopping district located just outside the theme park gates. It’s free to enter and offers a great selection of restaurants and stores, making it perfect for your arrival or departure day, or for evening entertainment after the park closes. The whole area is open daily from 10 AM to 10 PM, so it’s perfect for a chill evening after a full day in the park.

Dining Options

CityWalk features 15 restaurants ranging from casual to upscale dining:

Universal Citywalk Beijing
  • The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen: A steampunk-themed chocolate restaurant that is a must-visit for dessert lovers. The building is eye-catching with gears and smokestacks, like a Willy Wonka factory. Inside, they serve all-day brunch, sandwiches, and steaks – but the stars are the over-the-top milkshakes and desserts. We’re talking milkshakes topped with whole cupcakes or cookies, decadent sundaes, and creative chocolate-inspired pastries. It’s not cheap (around CNY 80 for a big shake) but it’s an experience. The atmosphere with staff in steampunk costumes is really cool too. Toothsome also has a candy store area where you can buy fancy truffles and macarons to-go.
  • The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar: This famous fusion restaurant from the US makes its first appearance outside America here. They serve both gourmet burgers and sushi – and even bizarre (but tasty) “Burgushi” rolls that combine elements of both. It’s a fun, trendy spot (with a big fish tank inside). Great for teens and adventurous eaters. If one person wants a bacon cheeseburger and another wants a dragon roll, everyone’s happy. The portions are large. Expect a wait at peak times – it’s popular.
  • Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.: If you’ve seen Forrest Gump, you’ll recognize the theme instantly—Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. brings the film’s charm and Southern-style seafood to life at CityWalk Beijing. The menu focuses heavily on shrimp, of course—try the Shrimper’s Heaven sampler or the Dumb Luck Coconut Shrimp. There are also burgers, fish and chips, and Southern sides like hush puppies and coleslaw. Portions are generous, prices are mid-to-high, and the casual, family-friendly vibe makes it great for both kids and grown-up movie fans.
  • Jumbo Seafood Restaurant: Straight from Singapore, Jumbo Seafood offers a more upscale dining experience focused on fresh, classic Asian seafood. Their Chili Crab is a must-try (a bit spicy, super flavorful, and perfect for sharing), but they also serve steamed fish, prawn dishes, and a variety of dim sum and stir-fries. The interiors are elegant but not intimidating—think polished wood, warm lighting, and big round tables ideal for family-style meals. It’s pricier than most CityWalk options but worth it if you’re in the mood for a proper sit-down feast after a long park day.
  • Peet’s Coffee: Need a caffeine boost or just a place to chill? Peet’s Coffee is your best bet for a quick break. Their espresso drinks are strong and reliable, and they also offer cold brews, teas, and seasonal specials. It’s a good place to grab a croissant, muffin, or sandwich if you’re not in the mood for a full meal.

During my last visit, I had dinner at The Cowfish after a day at the park and was impressed by both the quality and the unique concept – definitely worth trying if you enjoy fusion cuisine.

Shopping

CityWalk Beijing houses 7 retail spaces, including:

  • Universal Studios Store: A 750-square-meter flagship store selling merchandise from all the park’s themed areas.
  • The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium Candy Store: Specializing in unique sweets and chocolates.
  • Pop Mart Global Toy Factory Store: A popular Chinese designer toy brand with exclusive Universal collaborations.
  • Kakao Friends Beijing Flagship Store: Featuring merchandise from the popular Korean character brand.

I always pop into the Universal Studios Store first to pick up movie-themed merch (you’ll find everything from Minion plushies to Hogwarts robes). Beyond that, the lineup of stores here is surprisingly trendy: think Adidas MBC Store, Harmay, Kakao Friends, Pop Mart, and even a sleek Swarovski Crystal Studio.

Entertainment

If you’re in the mood to wind down, catch a movie at the Universal CityWalk Cinema, which screens the latest blockbusters in style. The Universal CityWalk Cinema features 10 theaters with more than 2,000 seats, including Beijing’s largest IMAX with Laser screen. It’s a great option for evening entertainment after the park closes.

My first visit to Disneyland at age 10 left me terrified. But when I returned at 17, something changed—I fell in love with the magic, and the pixie dust has stayed with me ever since. For the past five years, I’ve been running a Chinese-language blog dedicated to Disney park news and travel guides, helping non-English speakers navigate the world of Disney with confidence.
In 2023, I expanded my work to include English-language content, focusing on up-to-date guides and tips for Disney Parks across Asia. My goal is simple: to make Disney travel clear, welcoming, and practical—no matter what language you speak.
