Universal Studios Beijing Park & CityWalk Guide (2026)

Picture this: you step through the gates and the first thing you hear is a distant dinosaur roar echoing across the park. To your left, Hogwarts Castle rises above the rooftops. Straight ahead, a life-sized Optimus Prime stands guard. Universal Studios Beijing is the kind of place where every turn feels like stepping into a different movie — and as someone who has visited this park multiple times with friends and family, I can tell you it delivers on that promise in ways that still surprise me.

As China’s first Universal theme park and one of the largest in the world, it brings together seven themed lands, each built around blockbuster film franchises. Whether you are planning your first visit with kids, a weekend trip with friends, or a solo day of thrill rides and butterbeer, this guide walks you through every land and helps you decide where to spend your time.

Universal Studios Beijing Profile

  • Location: Tongzhou District, Beijing, China
  • Opened:  September 20, 2021
  • Attendance: 14.7 million visitors in 2024 (5th most visited theme park globally)
  • Lands: 7
  • Tickets: Official App (accepts WeChat Pay and Alipay only) | Klook | Trip.com

Side note on purchasing tickets on official app:

The official app and on-site payment systems only accept WeChat Pay and Alipay. If you are visiting from outside mainland China, set up one of these payment methods before your trip. International visitors can link Visa or Mastercard to the Alipay app — I recommend doing this at least a day before your visit so you are not fumbling with it at the gate.

Another option is purchase your ticket through third party vendor like Klook or Trip.com to avoid jargon.

Standard one-day tickets are enough for most visitors. The two-day ticket only makes sense if you plan to re-ride the top attractions or explore CityWalk at a relaxed pace.

🎂 2026: What’s New (5th Anniversary)

Universal Beijing Resort turns five in 2026, and the celebration runs all year under the theme “Infinitely Your Way.” Here is what matters for your visit:

  • Universal Infinite Spring (March 20 – May 31): The park’s biggest seasonal event of the year, featuring two headline IP collaborations. A Genshin Impact interactive zone takes over the end of Hollywood Boulevard, letting visitors step into the city of Mondstadt and interact with characters like Klee and Varka. Alongside it, the resort’s first immersive themed restaurant — Chang’an Grand Feast — brings Tang Dynasty-inspired dining with live performance elements. Both operate on limited daily sessions and require advance reservations through the official app.
  • Butterbeer Season (March 1 – May 31): Returning to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the first Harry Potter film. Look for the limited-edition Butterbeer Cream Puff and a collectible Harry Potter 25 Years of Magic Butterbeer Stein.
  • Nine themed events throughout 2026: Beyond spring, the calendar includes Universal Cool Summer, Scares @ Universal (featuring The Grave Robbers’ Chronicles and Identity V haunted mazes for 2026), and Winter Holiday. The 5th anniversary celebration reaches its peak in September — details are still being announced.
  • Anniversary-themed décor, character costumes, and updated live shows are rolling out across the resort throughout the year.

If you visited before 2026, the park’s seasonal programming has expanded significantly. It is worth checking the official app for what is running during your specific travel dates.

Theme Lands

Universal Studios Beijing is organized around seven themed lands, each built around a different film franchise. Unlike some theme parks where the lands blur together, the transitions here are distinct — you walk from a military-industrial Transformers base directly into a colorful Chinese-inspired valley, and the shift in music, architecture, and energy is immediate.

I have found that understanding what each land offers before you arrive makes a real difference in how you plan your day. Some lands are built around one or two headline rides. Others — like the Wizarding World and Kung Fu Panda — reward slower exploration with details, shops, and atmosphere that are easy to miss if you are rushing between queues.

Here is what you will find in each one.

Hollywood

Hollywood Boulevard is the first area you walk through after entering the park, and it sets the mood immediately. The street is lined with vintage-style facades, palm trees, and film-set details that blend classic Hollywood style with Chinese cultural elements.

I usually pass through Hollywood quickly in the morning — the rides and experiences in other lands are where you want to spend your first hours when lines are shortest. But I always circle back in the afternoon or evening. The shops and photo spots here are better enjoyed when you are not racing to beat the crowds.

🎂 2026 Update: During Universal Infinite Spring (March 20 – May 31), the far end of Hollywood Boulevard hosts the Genshin Impact “Celebration! Boom Boom Action” interactive zone. If you or your travel companions are Genshin fans, the Mondstadt-themed experience and character appearances (including Furina, Navia, and Katheryne on the second-floor balcony of Hollywood Bungalow) are worth a stop. Sessions are limited daily and require advance reservation.

Universal Studios Beijing Hollywood

Attraction Highlights:

  • Lights, Camera, Action!: A special effects demonstration that shows how movie sequences are created. It is a good break from the heat or rain, and younger visitors are often fascinated by the behind-the-scenes tricks.
  • Universal Studios Grand Parade: A colorful procession featuring characters from all seven themed lands. Check the official app for daily times — the schedule changes seasonally.
Ubj Hollywood Lights Camera Action | Your Disney

Photo Spot: The Universal globe at the park entrance is the obvious choice, but the Hollywood Boulevard facades at golden hour (late afternoon light) give you a more cinematic look with fewer people in frame.

Worth trying: Mel’s Drive-In — classic American diner burgers in a retro film-set atmosphere. It is not exceptional food, but the theming is fun and it is one of the quicker sit-down options near the park entrance.

Transformers: Metrobase

This is the world’s first Transformers-themed land at any Universal park, and if you enjoy thrill rides, it is where your morning should start.

The whole area is designed as a military-industrial base where the Autobots operate. The scale of the theming is impressive — towering Transformer figures, metallic architecture, and audio effects that make you feel like you have walked onto a film set mid-battle.

Universal Studios Beijing Transformers Metrobase

Attraction Highlights:

  • Decepticoaster: An intense roller coaster that accelerates to 104 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. This is my personal favorite thrill ride in the park. The launch is sudden, the inversions are aggressive, and the whole thing is over in about a minute. Lines build fast, so head here within the first 30 minutes of park opening.
  • Transformers: Battle for the AllSpark: A 3D dark ride where you join the Autobots in a high-speed chase through city streets. The combination of practical sets and screen-based effects is seamless. This one draws steady crowds all day, but it moves quickly — even a 60-minute posted wait usually feels shorter.
  • Transformers: MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE: A live character interaction show where you can meet and photograph Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. Good for families. Check the app for show times.

Pro tip for thrill seekers: If you arrive at park opening (typically 9:00 AM), head straight to Decepticoaster first, wait times spike fastest. Battle for the AllSpark has a higher ride capacity and handles crowds better throughout the day.

Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness

If you are traveling with younger children — or if you need a break from outdoor weather — Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness is a great choice. This is a fully indoor themed land, which makes it one of the most comfortable areas in the park regardless of weather.

Everything inside is designed to look like the Valley of Peace from the Kung Fu Panda films. The colors are bright, the spaces are playful, and the energy is warm without being overwhelming. I find it is a good mid-afternoon stop when everyone in the group needs to recharge.

Universal Studios Beijing Kung Fu Panda Land Of Awesomeness

Attraction Highlight: Kung Fu Panda Journey of the Dragon Warrior — a flume-style water ride that follows Po on his quest to defeat Tai Lung. It has just enough splash to cool you down without soaking you completely. The animatronics and sets inside are surprisingly detailed for a family ride.

Worth trying: Mr. Ping’s Noodle House — the walk-through interactive area before the restaurant is part of the experience, and the beef noodles (around CNY 78) are legitimately good by theme park standards. This is the best in-park meal for the price.

Universal Studios Beijing Kung Fu Panda Land Of Awesomeness

For Kids: The carnival-style games scattered around the land cost approximately CNY 35 per play. They are fun for younger visitors, but the prizes are small — manage expectations accordingly.

Because this land is fully indoors, it tends to get busy on rainy days and during summer afternoons when everyone seeks air conditioning at the same time. Visit in the morning on hot days if you can.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Stepping into The Wizarding World of Harry Potter still catches me off guard every time. The snow-covered rooftops of Hogsmeade Village appear around a corner, the soundtrack shifts, and suddenly the rest of the park feels very far away. Universal Beijing’s version of this land features the largest Hogwarts Castle of any Universal park, and the level of detail in the architecture, shops, and atmosphere is exceptional.

🎂 2026 Update: Butterbeer Season runs March 1 – May 31 this year, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the first Harry Potter film. Look for the limited-time Butterbeer Cream Puff alongside the usual frozen and cold butterbeer options. A collectible 25 Years of Magic Butterbeer Stein is also available while supplies last.

Ubj The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter | Your Disney

Attraction Highlights:

  • Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey: A 4D dark ride through Hogwarts that combines physical sets with screen technology. The queue itself is worth the wait — you walk through Dumbledore’s office, the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, and the Gryffindor common room. Wait times typically range from 60 to 150 minutes, so plan accordingly.
  • Flight of the Hippogriff: A family-friendly outdoor roller coaster that is much gentler than Decepticoaster. Good for younger visitors or anyone who prefers milder thrills. Lines are usually shorter than Forbidden Journey.
  • Ollivanders: An interactive wand ceremony where a wand “chooses” its wizard. One visitor per session is selected for the experience — it is charming for kids and adults alike. The show runs continuously throughout the day with short waits.
Universal Studios The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter

Don’t Miss the Nighttime Magic at Hogwarts Castle — a projection mapping show on the castle facade that runs after dark. The castle transforms through different scenes set to the film’s soundtrack, and the effect is striking. Arrive 15–20 minutes early and position yourself in the open area facing the castle. Center positions give the best view of the full projection.

Ubj Hogsmeade | Your Disney

For Photo Spot, the bridge connecting Hogsmeade to the castle entrance gives you a clean front-on view of Hogwarts with the village rooftops in the foreground. Best light is in the late afternoon. At night, the castle lit up before or after the projection show is equally impressive.

Worth trying: Butterbeer (cold or frozen, available at carts near the bridge and inside Three Broomsticks) — it is sweet and rich, closer to cream soda than beer. The frozen version is the better of the two. Three Broomsticks serves passable fish and chips with a lakeside outdoor seating area that has views of Hogwarts Castle.

Worth buying: Interactive wands (approximately CNY349) work at spell-casting spots throughout Hogsmeade — windows open, fountains activate, objects move when you perform the right wand movement.

Money Saving Tip: You can rent house-themed robes and interactive wands from vendors outside the park (prices start around CNY 59 per day) instead of buying them inside. This saves a significant amount if you are visiting with a family.

Jurassic World Isla Nublar

If you are after immersive theming and another top-tier dark ride, do not skip Jurassic World Isla Nublar. The whole land is designed to feel like you have walked through the gates of the dinosaur park from the films — lush jungle vegetation, dramatic ambient music, and the occasional roar from somewhere you cannot quite see.

Universal Studios Beijing Jurassic World

Attraction Highlights:

  • Jurassic World Adventure: An indoor dark ride that takes you on a safari through the island when containment fails. The animatronic dinosaurs are the most realistic I have seen in any theme park — the moment a T. rex charges your vehicle at close range is one of those experiences you remember long after you leave. Wait times are similar to Forbidden Journey (60–120+ minutes), and the ride capacity is moderate, so I recommend visiting either first thing in the morning or in the last two hours before park close when most families have left.
  • Jurassic Flyers: A gentle suspended ride that lifts you 8 meters high for panoramic views of the land. Short ride, short wait — it is a nice breather between the bigger attractions.
  • Camp Jurassic: A play and exploration area designed for younger visitors, with climbing structures and dinosaur fossil displays. Good for letting kids burn energy while adults rest nearby.
Universal Studios Beijing Jurassic World

If you have already ridden the headliners in the morning and the park is open until 9 PM or later (common in summer), come back to Jurassic World Adventure in the evening. Wait times often drop dramatically after 7:30 PM, and the ride experience feels different in a good way when the park has quieted down.

Worth trying: Hammond’s burger — bacon, fried egg, pineapple sauce on a 200-gram patty. Multiple visitors call it the best burger in the park.

Waterworld

Waterworld is built around one thing: Waterworld: A Live Sea War Spectacular — and that one thing is worth building your schedule around.

Universal Studios Beijing Waterworld

This is a live stunt show performed in a large outdoor arena, based on the film Waterworld. It features high-speed jet ski chases, massive fireballs, aerial stunts, and real water explosions happening just meters from the audience. The choreography is tight, the pacing is fast, and the practical effects are genuinely impressive.

The show runs 2–3 times per day; check the app for exact times. The arena fills up fast, especially on weekends and holidays. I recommend arriving 20–25 minutes before showtime to get a good seat. Seats in the front rows are marked as splash zones — you will get wet. If you want the excitement without the soaking, sit in the middle rows, center section.

Universal Studios Beijing Waterworld

Pro Tip: Waterworld showtimes vary daily based on weather and season. On days with only one or two performances, the arena fills to capacity quickly. If this show is important to you, check the schedule first thing in the morning and plan your day around it.

Minion Land

Minion Land is the park’s most lighthearted area — bright colors, playful details, and a relaxed energy that makes it a natural choice for families with younger kids or anyone who needs a less intense section of the park.

Ubj Minion Land | Your Disney

Attraction Highlights:

  • Despicable Me Minion Mayhem: A 3D motion simulator that pulls you into Gru’s world for a fast, funny ride. It is not a thrill ride, but the motion is more active than it looks — guests with motion sensitivity should be aware.
  • Super Silly Fun Land: A fully indoor zone with carnival games, gentle rides, and water play features. On hot summer days, the water features are a lifesaver for families with children.
Ubj Minion Land 1 | Your Disney

Worth buying: The Minion popcorn bucket is the signature novelty souvenir of this land — refillable and photogenic. The Minion Mart also carries Universal-exclusive items including zodiac series merchandise only available at this park.

Pro Tip: Minion Land tends to be less crowded in the first and last hours of operation. If you are not a morning thrill-ride person, starting your day here is a calm alternative — ride Minion Mayhem with a short wait, then move to the bigger rides as you warm up.

Universal CityWalk Beijing

Universal Citywalk Beijing

Universal CityWalk Beijing is the entertainment, dining, and shopping district located just outside the theme park gates. It is free to enter — no park ticket required — and it is open daily with extended hours (CityWalk typically opens early morning and stays open well past park closing time; check the official app for exact hours on your visit date).

CityWalk is perfect for your arrival or departure day, or for a relaxed evening after a full day of rides. I always plan dinner here rather than inside the park — the restaurant quality is higher, the prices are roughly the same, and you are not eating while anxiously watching wait times on your phone.

Dining Options

CityWalk features around 15 restaurants ranging from casual to upscale. Here are the ones I think are worth your time:

Universal Citywalk Beijing
  • The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen: A steampunk-themed chocolate restaurant that is part dining experience, part spectacle. The building itself — with gears, smokestacks, and an industrial-fantasy interior — is worth seeing even if you do not eat here. The menu covers brunch, sandwiches, and steaks, but the real draw is the dessert program: towering milkshakes topped with whole cupcakes or cookies, creative sundaes, and chocolate-inspired pastries. A signature milkshake runs around CNY 80. It is not cheap, but it is memorable.
  • The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar: A fusion restaurant that serves both gourmet burgers and sushi — plus their signature “Burgushi” rolls that combine elements of both. The concept sounds strange, but it works. This is one of the most popular CityWalk restaurants, so expect a wait during peak dinner hours (6–8 PM). The portions are generous. If one person wants a cheeseburger and another wants a dragon roll, everyone leaves happy.
  • Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.: Southern-style seafood themed around Forrest Gump. The menu focuses heavily on shrimp — try the Shrimper’s Heaven sampler or the Dumb Luck Coconut Shrimp for a good introduction. They also serve burgers, fish and chips, and sides like coleslaw. Portions are large, prices are mid-to-high range, and the family-friendly atmosphere makes it comfortable for groups with children.
  • Jumbo Seafood Restaurant: Originally from Singapore, Jumbo offers an upscale dining experience focused on classic Asian seafood. Their Chili Crab is the signature dish — it is rich, a little spicy, and ideal for sharing at a round table. They also serve steamed fish, prawn dishes, dim sum, and stir-fries. This is the priciest CityWalk option, but it is worth it for a proper sit-down meal after a full park day. The atmosphere is polished — warm lighting, wood interiors, big round tables suited to family-style dining.
  • Peet’s Coffee: The best option for a quick caffeine stop. Strong espresso drinks, cold brews, teas, and light food (croissants, muffins, sandwiches). If you arrive early before park opening and need fuel, or if you are heading out in the evening and just want somewhere to sit for twenty minutes, Peet’s is reliable.
0Eq4N12000Lah4H084915 | Your Disney

Pro Tip: If you plan to eat dinner at CityWalk after the park closes, avoid arriving right at park closing time — that is when everyone else has the same idea. Either eat early (around 5:30 PM, ducking out of the park before the rush) or eat late (8:30 PM onward, after the first wave has cleared).

Shopping and Entertainment

CityWalk houses around seven retail spaces. The ones worth noting:

  • Universal Studios Store: The 750-square-meter flagship shop carrying merchandise from all seven themed lands. If you missed something inside the park, you will likely find it here.
  • Pop Mart Global Toy Factory Store: A Chinese designer toy brand with exclusive Universal Studios collaborations. If you collect Pop Mart figures, the Universal-exclusive blind boxes are only available here.
  • Kakao Friends Beijing Flagship Store: Merchandise from the popular Korean character brand. Good for gifts.
  • The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium Candy Store: Connected to the restaurant, selling boxed chocolates and sweets for souvenirs.
Universal Beijing Citywalk Sign | Your Disney

Beyond these, the retail lineup includes Adidas MBC Store, Harmay (a trendy beauty retailer), and a Swarovski Crystal Studio.

Worth buying: The Pop Mart Universal-exclusive blind boxes at the Pop Mart Global Toy Factory Store are the only merch item I would call a genuine collector draw — they are exclusive to this location and unavailable online.

Ubj Merch | Your Disney

Universal CityWalk Cinema: A 10-screen cinema with more than 2,000 seats, including Beijing’s largest IMAX with Laser screen. If you are staying at one of the resort hotels and have an evening free, catching a film here is a solid option. The cinema screens the latest releases.

How to Think About the Day

Universal Studios Beijing is a park that rewards a little planning. The seven themed lands each have a distinct personality — from the high-adrenaline launches at Transformers: Metrobase to the cozy indoor world of Kung Fu Panda Land — and understanding what each area offers helps you build a day that fits your group.

If I had to pick my personal must-do list for a first visit:

  • start your morning with Decepticoaster and Jurassic World Adventure before lines build,
  • catch the Waterworld stunt show in the afternoon,
  • explore The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in the late afternoon and evening when the castle lighting is at its best,
  • and end with the Nighttime Magic at Hogwarts Castle projection show after dark.

Following this route on a weekday without Express Pass, I covered all four must-do rides, the Waterworld stunt show, and the Hogwarts Castle night show in a single day — with time for a sit-down lunch at Mr. Ping’s Noodle House.

One timing note: Labour Day (early May) and National Day (early October) are China’s busiest holiday weeks — wait times across the park can double. If your dates are flexible, avoid these windows.

For 2026 specifically, the 5th anniversary seasonal events add a layer of limited-time experiences that make this a particularly strong year to visit — especially during the spring season when the Genshin Impact zone, Butterbeer Season, and anniversary programming overlap.

Whether you are coming for one packed day or spreading it across a weekend with a resort hotel stay, there is more than enough here to fill your time. Download the official app before you arrive, set up Alipay or WeChat Pay, and get ready for a day of serious fun.

My first visit to Disneyland at age 10 left me terrified. But when I returned at 17, something changed—I fell in love with the magic, and the pixie dust has stayed with me ever since. For the past five years, I’ve been running a Chinese-language blog dedicated to Disney park news and travel guides, helping non-English speakers navigate the world of Disney with confidence.
In 2023, I expanded my work to include English-language content, focusing on up-to-date guides and tips for Disney Parks across Asia. My goal is simple: to make Disney travel clear, welcoming, and practical—no matter what language you speak.
