If you’ve been waiting for a reason to visit Shanghai Disneyland, this is it. The park turns ten on March 20, 2026, and Disney is going big — a brand-new castle show with extra stages, a Zootopia parade float, an updated nighttime fireworks and light show, and the largest dedicated merchandise collection the resort has ever released. The celebration runs for a full year.
Quick Take
- Event start: March 20, 2026 — runs for a full year
- Must-see: The Heart of Magic castle show, new Zootopia parade float
- Best time to visit: March 20 – mid April (spring weather, full launch lineup, pre-summer crowds)
- Included with regular admission: Yes
Should you plan a trip around this? Yes — especially if this is your first Shanghai Disneyland visit. The park runs at its most complete version during a major anniversary: full entertainment lineup, extended hours, and the highest energy of any time of year.

New Shows, Parades, and Highlights
The headline act is The Heart of Magic, an all-new castle show performed on the Enchanted Storybook Castle. Three new smaller side stages and connecting bridges have been added around the castle. This means you can enjoy the show comfortably from multiple angles — no need to fight for a spot directly in front.
The show unfolds in four chapters as Mickey and friends descend into a crystal cavern beneath the castle. Characters from nine films appear: Cinderella, Winnie the Pooh, Tangled, Mulan, Hercules, Frozen, Toy Story, Coco, and Turning Red. Hercules makes his Shanghai Disneyland debut here. Miguel from Coco also appears in a major park show for the first time.

The daily parade Mickey’s Storybook Express gains two new floats. Before the main parade, FriendSHIP! The Duffy and Friends Special Pre-Parade kicks things off with a golden ship float carrying all seven Duffy and Friends characters in new outfits. Then a Zootopia float joins the main lineup — Gazelle’s concert bus, with Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and DJ Officer Clawhauser performing to “Try Everything” and the Zootopia 2 theme.

The nighttime fireworks and light show Illuminate! A Nighttime Celebration gets a new grand finale: “Magic Together: A Special 10th Birthday Celebration.” Mickey appears in a magician outfit, and new fountains, projections, and fireworks transform the castle. A new segment inspired by Wish is also added, featuring Asha and Star.
A new performer troupe called the Star Squad will appear at seasonal shows throughout the year — a spring Duffy event, a summer splash with Chip and Dale, an autumn villain parade, a winter Royal Ball, and a Zootopia street party for Lunar New Year.
How to Plan Your Visit
The best window is March 20 through mid April. Spring weather in Shanghai is mild and pleasant. The full anniversary lineup will be running, and you’ll be ahead of the summer heat and school holiday crowds that hit the park from late June onward.
Which type of visitor are you?
- Visiting for the first time → The anniversary window is the best time to come. The park runs its most complete version, with all entertainment happening at once.
- Duffy fan → The pre-parade float is your priority. Stake out a spot along Mickey Avenue (the main street from the entrance to the castle) or the Gardens of Imagination (the central plaza in front of the castle) about 20 minutes before the parade starts.
- On a tighter budget → The core anniversary shows are all included with a regular ticket. No add-ons needed to get full value.
- Trying to avoid crowds → Come in the March 20–April window. The Labour Day holiday in early May is a major travel period for mainland China visitors — if your dates are flexible, finish your trip before May 1.
Crowd note: If you’re flexible on dates, aim to wrap up before May 1. The Labour Day Golden Week is one of the busiest periods of the year for this park.
The park tends to extend operating hours during the launch period, which means more value from a single-day ticket than on a normal day.

Tickets, Dates, and Tips
- Start date: March 20, 2026 (International Happiness Day)
- Duration: Yearlong — no specific end date announced
- Core celebration: Included with regular park admission
- Special ticket bundles: “10th Birthday Celebration” packages are available, including family bundles with reserved viewing areas for shows and a celebratory park guide. Specific bundle pricing has not been confirmed at time of writing.
- Collectible tickets: Starting March 20, park tickets feature 30 different Disney character designs in a puzzle series.

- Travel note: You’ll need Alipay or WeChat Pay for most in-park purchases. If you plan to use non-Chinese apps while you’re in Shanghai, set up a VPN before you travel.
Limited-Time Eats and Collectibles
Must-Try Food:
- Magic Wish Noodles — limited-edition birthday noodles available at multiple restaurants across the park, each serving a different regional Chinese recipe. Available during the anniversary period only.
- Fan-favourite snacks from the past ten years are making a limited-time comeback — worth checking the park map for what’s available on your visit.
- Anniversary popcorn buckets, souvenir cups, and straw charms inspired by popular park snacks.

Collectibles:
- Magic Wand — an interactive collectible you wave around the park to unlock photo effects and collect personalized wishing stars. Think of it as a park-wide treasure hunt you carry in your hand. The more areas you visit, the more you collect.
- A full limited merchandise range: plush toys, keychains, apparel, accessories, and collectibles featuring Mickey and Friends, Duffy and Friends, and the Enchanted Storybook Castle.

My Take
The castle show alone makes this worth planning a trip around. Shanghai Disneyland already has one of the most impressive castle stages in the world — the tallest and largest Disney castle — and adding smaller side stages with connecting bridges is a major upgrade, not a seasonal change. Hercules and Miguel making their park debuts makes this feel genuine rather than routine.
The Zootopia float is a perfect fit. The Zootopia land at Shanghai Disneyland is already one of the best themed areas Disney has built, and having Judy, Nick, and Clawhauser on a Gazelle concert bus in the daily parade extends that world in a way that feels natural.
My suggestion: lock in your travel dates first, then book accommodation close to the resort early — demand goes up fast when a major anniversary launches and nearby hotels fill up quickly. Check back once Disney releases the show schedule to finalize your day plan. Late March to mid April is the window: full lineup, spring weather, and the opening energy that won’t be there by summer.
